If you want to be a successful digital marketer, then you should be aware of the latest updates related to social media. Being one of the most widely used social media platforms out there, Twitter keeps on redefining itself. A while back, it announced the latest update regarding the 280 character limit for tweets. The update was certainly a big relief to many as almost all the marketers used to struggle with the previous 140 character limit.
Now, you can easily level up your social media marketing game on Twitter and reach out to a wider audience for sure. To make things easier for you, I have come up with some expert suggestions that will help you make the most of the Twitter’s latest update.
Details of Twitter’s new update (in a nutshell) For almost a year now, there have been speculations about the Twitter’s new character limit. It was in the last quarter of 2017 when Twitter finally announced the 280-character update for posting tweets. For languages except Chinese, Japanese, and Korean, Twitter has increased the character limit for tweets from 140 to 280 characters. The attached photos, GIFs, polls, etc. won’t be counted as characters. Though, if you will include a URL, then it will increase the character count. Therefore, it is still recommended to use a URL shortening service while including website links in tweets.
12 ways to make the most of Twitter’s new update Now when you can tweet in 280 characters, you don’t need to double-check every word you write. Furthermore, it can help you answer customer queries or explain a product to your audience. Here are some interesting ways to use Twitter’s new update. Everyday, there are 4 million blog posts, 100,000 news articles and 500,000 hours of video published on the Internet. A wealth of information and knowledge. A wealth of information and knowledge that is lost for most companies, at least for the most part.
Lost?
Step 1: content curation Not entirely. Thanks to content curation technology, the Web can now be filtered. With content curation tools and platforms such as Scoop.it (among others of course), we can use more or less sophisticated ways to filter this huge amount of content that is published daily to zoom in on what matters to us. Good content curation technology is essential. It saves people a huge amount of time looking for content to share for marketing purposes or information that helps their organization make better decisions. And perhaps as importantly, without these filters, we would just be able to search – not discover. We would still find answers to what we don’t know but we wouldn’t know what we don’t know.
But until recently, all the solutions we’ve offered to deal with information overload – ours included – have revolved around the same basic idea: more – or more sophisticated – filters. Considering Community: Communities of practice as vital tools for knowledge management Social in silico includes a series of occasional posts focused on community management tips and related information. I’m tagging these Considering Community and you can find all the posts in the series here.
Previously on this blog, I’ve reflected on the different types of community that I’ve observed within science and specifically in the first cohort of the community engagement fellowship program that I run at AAAS. I identified four initial broad types of scientific communities – from professional associations to communities of practice. I’m currently delving deeper into communities of practice and am enjoying reading “Cultivating communities of practice” by Etienne Wenger, Richard McDermott and William M. Snyder.
Communities of practice and coffee – breaking down those silos one latte at a time…
What’s a community of practice – and what does it have to do with knowledge management? A community of practice is a group of people who gather to learn more about a topic together and in doing so deepen their knowledge and expertise. The group may not have a specifically defined goal, but rather meet regularly to continually refine what they know about a subject. As such, communities of practice are key to knowledge management.
Wenger et al list 5 ways in which communities of practice are key to how we manage knowledge...

In 2018, content marketing will continue to influence marketing and business in a bigger, and more impactful way. 2017 saw us become remarkably more sophisticated in the types of content being offered and the level of depth and strategy being used.
As we move into 2018, factors such as more widespread adoption of marketing automation, the massive shift to video marketing, and the precipice of AI and real personalization in content marketing being behind us, the pace of change certainly isn’t going to slow down.
Which means the challenge for all of us is to keep up.
The push behind making content better – more engaging, richer content that resonates with the content consumer like it was made for them – is being driven by dozens of content marketing influencers who are sharing their insights, experience and knowledge of how to do content well – really well.
If you want to make your content marketing better in 2018, tap into the minds who have been cultivating this area of marketing for years.
Onalytica recently shared their list of the leading content marketing influencers (with me exclusively) for 2018.
Their data reveals what’s being discussed more than any other area of content and it also identifies the most influential voices, based on how much engagement they are driving, how much they are talking, number of followers, and how much they are referenced.
Yours truly is happy to be named on this list, and I have to say I’m excited to keep the conversations going with all of these great minds. Can’t wait to see what we’re doing by the end of this 12-month ride around the sun!
Instead, CA persuaded enough people to trust and approve its Facebook app, called “This is Your Digital Life”, that it was able to access, accumulate and allegedly to abuse personal data from millions of users.
That’s because the app grabbed permission to access data not only about you, but about your Facebook friends.
In other words, if one of your friends installed the app, then they might have shared with CA various information that you’d shared with them.
But how to find out which of your friends (some of whom may be ex-friends by now) installed the app, and how to be sure that they remember correctly whether they used the app or not?
Facebook has now come up with a way, given that it has logs that show who used the app, and who was friends with them.
We used this link:

We see a post on social media, read an article in the paper, listen to opinions in a meeting, hear the results of a poll, and before you know it, we adjust our views and jump on the bandwagon with everyone else. It’s as if we say, “If it’s good enough for them, it’s good enough for me.” No questions asked. Groupthink: what makes you think others know better?
We are dramatically affected by the people around us. In fact, we tend to do things simply because others do them, rather than follow our own beliefs or think for ourselves. That’s fine if we’re kind, eat healthy, or read more because our friends and colleagues influence us to act that way. But this phenomenon can also compel us to do things against our own best interest — if we’re not careful.
Even though being part of a group provides comfort and security it doesn’t guarantee that your group will always think intelligently; in fact, their reasoning may be deeply flawed. That’s why you should think carefully before you end up destroying your credibility and your reputation. It’s important to consider whether the messenger is credible, the information is accurate, the rationale is logical, and the intentions are honorable. The alternative is to follow the group blindly — and assume that other members did their homework.
When your ears hear one thing, but your eyes see another…use your brain. Learn more / En savoir plus / Mehr erfahren: https://www.scoop.it/t/21st-century-learning-and-teaching?tag=Critical-Thinking https://www.scoop.it/t/21st-century-learning-and-teaching/?&tag=Frank+SONNENBERG

In today’s hypermedia landscape, youth and young adults are increasingly using social media platforms, online aggregators and mobile applications for daily information use. Communication educators, armed with a host of free, easy-to-use online tools, have the ability to create dynamic approaches to teaching and learning about information and communication flow online. In this paper we explore the concept of curation as a student- and creation-driven pedagogical tool to enhance digital and media literacy education. We present a theoretical justification for curation and present six key ways that curation can be used to teach about critical thinking, analysis and expression online. We utilize a case study of the digital curation platform Storify to explore how curation works in the classroom, and present a framework that integrates curation pedagogy into core media literacy education learning outcomes. Every business values their company blog for different reasons, but in order to accomplish any worthy goal, you need to ensure your blog has a high level of engagement with readers. Having said that, are you doing everything possible to increase blog engagement with your readership?
Increase blog engagement in 5 easy steps Blog engagement is important for a number of reasons. First and foremost, it allows you to reach your target audience and have considerable influence over them. Secondly, it enhances your SEO standing and enables you to prove to the search engines that your content is valuable and worthy of prime real estate in the search results.
“Google notices whenever blog visitors leave comments and posts as well as when they post a response,” SEO Service Agents explains. “For the search engines, they will see that your blog is active and very much alive. Not to mention the fact that your rankings in the SERP’s will benefit from mentions of your content on social media platforms. The end result is that all of this will generate more visitor traffic. And that is exactly what you are looking for.”
But what exactly is the goal? In other words, what does it look like for a blog to have high levels of engagement? From a big-picture perspective, you want blog visitors to read and engage with your posts, comment and share on social media, and return to your blog regularly to check for new content.
The big question is, how? How do you get readers to do these things on a steady and ongoing basis? While there are numerous strategies you can use to get the desired results, here are a few keys that leading brands have discovered over the years. So you want to do content marketing – and in a big way. This isn’t going to be a tentative test. You’re making an aggressive, committed, all-in push to create and engage an audience for the long-term.
First of all – good for you! Content marketing is effective, and increasingly more effective than advertising. And as it gets harder and harder for advertising to work, we expect more companies to make serious, committed shifts like this.
But now that you know you’re serious, you’re going to need to hire people. This assumes, of course, that you’ve decided to keep this thing in-house rather than hire an agency.
I think that’s smart. Here’s why:
Good content marketing involves the entire company – sales, customer service, management, even accounting and development. An in-house team will always have better communication channels with those departments than an agency will. You’ll see each other in the elevator, at the Christmas party, and at any other company-wide function. There’s no question of everyone being “on the team” with an in-house content program. This isn’t always so with agencies. There are sometimes lingering questions about what an agency’s priorities really are.
Great content marketing rises up from your company’s DNA. Your brand voice, your value proposition, your understanding of your customers… these are so core to your company that I worry about hiring an agency to define it for you. With the agency thing settled, you now need to go build your team. The question becomes: What are your goals? What’s your budget? Those answers will inform how big of a team you’ll need and who you’ll hire first.

Learning doesn't have to be a "loner" experience. Russian psychologist Lev Vygotsky suggested that knowledge is constructed through our interactions with others. MOOCs (Massive Open Online Learning) leverage our inherent social needs by bringing people together to learn the same material in a virtual group. Students can express what they're feeling and experiencing with others in a shared space, making the learning journey more enjoyable and less daunting.
As people gain confidence, they often enjoy friendly competition with fellow learners to push themselves to compete exercises and assignments. Recognition is part of our need for building self-esteem—and some courses have gamification built in to reward student accomplishments and community helpfulness.
