Twitter's firehose of tweets has long been offered as a goldmine for businesses trying to understand how to improve or market their products, and now Facebook will allow privacy-safe peeks at its treasure trove, too. (From the article): Surprisingly enough, Facebook is giving DataSift the keys to the castle for free in exchange for helping it rapidly break into the market with the startup’s tech and relationships. DataSift will charge analytics firms a fee for queries, who will then mark up the price and sell it to brands.
If brands find the data valuable, it could draw them and their ad budgets closer to Facebook. Until now, Facebook has largely been a black box inside a walled garden. Marketers didn’t know what was said inside. DataSift and Topic Data let them peer inside.

This is awesome because we need better data from the Facebook to understand how to improve. We are always striving to do more and better. This helps us do that also on a larger scale.

Wow… what a fast and furious end to September as the #ukedchat masses discussed all things bloggery! There are a number of key #ukedchat contributors who have long advocated blogging as a tool for good. In this week’s discussion, they had a chance to convert the rest of us… and believe me, I think it worked! People spoke overwhelmingly positively about the potential for blogs to offer pupils an audience for their writing, however it soon became clear that blogs can be used in so many different ways and have many different purposes and goals. We discussed safety and workload concerns, how to use blogs to promote literacy and parental engagement and how blogging can improve pupils’ self-esteem. The doubters (of which I suppose I was one, having not really yet embraced blogging as a class tool…) were very quickly silenced as more and more educators tweeted about the positive impact blogging has had. I can honestly say that this week’s #ukedchat discussion has given me so much inspiration. In fact, I’m now working on a plan to change my KS3 writers club into a blogging club! I scooped this article because as I interviewed teachers this year, I felt like many of them were so YOUNG! I couldn't believe how old I was, or least how old I felt compared to how young they were. This article references the differences in their thinking and working style and it's a good article for me to read and understand. When they speak out, its not out of disrespect, it's because they've grown up being told to speak out. I hope that this article sheds light on the new generation of teachers and educators for those of us that have been in the race a bit longer, and those of us who don't understand all of the nuances that we see with this generation.
