Today’s vocabulary of innovation is the ultimate rhetorical tool. It inundates dominant discourse, spreading from the field of politics to the sectors of work, education and art. At the heart of this prevailing techno-positivist context, collective DISNOVATION.ORG [aka. disobedient innovation] offers a dissection of the ideology of technological innovation through a series of critical hacks.
This exhibition presents alternative narratives to the "propaganda of innovation" by exploring: a parallel history of technologies from the perspective of their failures (The Museum of Failures), the ghosts of military engineering and science fiction in everyday technologies (War Zone, Floating Prophecies), the standardization of Western technological imaginaries (Shanzhai Archeology), and an anthology on piracy of necessity (The Pirate Book).
The second part looks at the friction spaces generated between hyperconnected web users and the global network - including hacks such as: a system to predict and subvert emerging artistic trends (Predictive Art Bot), an exposure of live peer-to-peer video exchanges (The Pirate Cinema), or a printed directory containing millions of restricted addresses commonly used to filter Internet access worldwide (Blacklists). http://2017.mappingfestival.com/fr/events/disnovation-org
L’exposition Le Rêve des formes, présentée à l’occasion du vingtième anniversaire de l’école du Fresnoy, est conçue comme un paysage imaginaire, un jardin monstrueux où se cultivent des formes périssables et des surfaces en germination, des organismes protubérants et de plates silhouettes. Les artistes et chercheurs rassemblés dans Le Rêve des formes témoignent de leur rencontre avec de nouvelles possibilités de représentation, issues de découvertes scientifiques et techniques récentes, qui bouleversent notre façon de voir et de montrer. En renouvelant grâce à cela le champ du perceptible – nanotechnologies, imagerie de synthèse, scan 3D, stéréolithographie… –, ces nouvelles visualisations nous laissent présumer de géométries encore inconnues...

Since the 1990s the internet has provided the opportunity for mass copying, redistribution and remixing of content – profoundly changing the way culture is produced and shared and sparking legal battles and debates that still rage on. Today, the increasing availability of technologies like 3D scanning and 3D printing have extended the ability to digitally copy and reproduce to the physical realm. ... Last year, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum captured the public’s attention with a working, solid gold toilet installed in one of its restrooms. This year, they're are going for something a little more subtle: A “desert” that’s acoustically soundproofed to prevent anything but the lowest of ambient sounds. PSAD Synthetic Desert III, as the installation is formally titled, is the creation of West Coast artist Doug Wheeler, who originally conceived the idea nearly 50 years ago. Working in collaboration with the museum, Wheeler is finally realizing the project after all this time.
L’exposition Cells Fiction, qui interroge l’univers du microcosme, présente les travaux de dix étudiants de Master, réalisés dans le cadre du programme de recherche Images, Sciences et Technologies conduit par l’Esä, Ecole Supérieure d’Art du Nord-Pas-de-Calais, en association avec le Centre d’art Espace Croisé et le laboratoire TisBio (CNRS, Université Lille 1). Pour réaliser leurs projets, les étudiants ont travaillé au sein du laboratoire de microscopie photonique Tisbio, à l’interface entre la biologie, l’informatique et la physique. Si certains ont étudié les minéraux ou les propriétés de la lumière, beaucoup ont travaillé à partir des cellules, humaines ou végétales, ces plus petites unités du vivant. Quelles informations contiennent-elles ? Leur division, qui s’opère à notre insu, peuvent-elles nous apporter des informations autres que strictement scientifiques sur nous-mêmes ? Peut-on les faire « parler » différemment : ont-elles un son, une odeur ? Les séances au sein du laboratoire se sont multipliées depuis sept mois, conduisant les uns et les autres à affiner leurs projets, à les nourrir de lectures scientifiques, à répéter les expériences et les phases d’observation. ...

Témoin de son temps et fort de son expérience de chercheur en robotique au Japon durant la dernière décennie, Zaven Paré a participé à un moment exceptionnel de l’histoire de la robotique. Feb. 9, 2017 – April 2, 2017 HUMAN / DIGITAL: a symbiotic love affair’ is an exhibition on contemporary artists who take their inspiration from the Internet and digital technology. While the definition of Post-Internet Art is still being debated, the impact that computers, the internet and new digital technologies have on contemporary artists is growing unabated. Collaborations and experimenting with concepts such as copyright and ownership are essential for artists working with technology. Over thirty artworks from the Brown Family Collection - from photography to video art, and from websites to installations - by 25 different national and international artists, including Jon Rafman, Constant Dullaart, Anne de Vries, Cory Arcangel, Jonas Lund en Rafaël Rozendaal illustrate the diversity of digital art. À l’automne 2016, G-SICA, groupe inter-laboratoires sur l’Image, la Communication et les Arts numériques, composé de chercheurs de l’Université Savoie Mont Blanc (USMB) et d’artistes, présentera ArTICland : Connecté au monde à l’Espace Larith. Dans le cadre de cette exposition, qui aura lieu du 14 septembre au 12 novembre, une rencontre entre Sarah Dietz, du réseau Ville d’art et d’histoire, Marc Veyrat et Franck Soudan, chercheurs au département Hypermédias du laboratoire Langages, Littératures, Sociétés, Études Transfrontalières et Internationales (LLESTI) de l’Université Savoie Mont Blanc (USMB), se déroulera le mercredi 28 septembre à 18h30, à la médiathèque J.J. LA CHAMBRE BLANCHE est heureuse d’accueillir l’exposition «Graphiques dégénérés» se déroulant dans le cadre de VISQuébec. Le Meetup et le vernissage de l’exposition auront lieu le 1er mai à partir de 17h. L’exposition se déroulera du 1er mai au 7 mai 2017.
Pour le Meetup, nous aurons le plaisir d’accueillir un spécialiste de Silicon Valley en visualisation de données : Micah Stubbs. Ce dernier s’implique activement à la communauté open source en partageant ses recherches.
Pour l’exposition et la présentation VISQuébec, les accidents dans la visualisation de données seront le sujet d’étude. Bien qu’esthétiques, ces erreurs dans les graphiques mènent à des aberrations inattendues pouvant se transformer en données non lisibles et peut-être même imaginaires. Pour la communauté de la visualisation de données D3.js, les échecs visuels sont partagés sur le Web via #d3brokeandmadeart. La mise en commun de ses échecs permet de comprendre le processus qui se produit lors de ces aberrations visuelles se rapprochant du «glitch art».
Cet événement est une invitation ouverte à la communauté artistique, aux curieux, aux professionnels et aux amateurs de la visualisation de données.

Perhaps then it is no surprise that we take an estimated one million a day, often risking our careers as well as our lives and the lives of those around us in order to get the perfect self-portrait.
But is this ubiquitous action merely an inane form of self-promotion or are selfies in fact a modern medium of visual expression and communication that should be taken seriously? ...
A.I.R. Gallery invites curators to submit proposals for our next CURRENTS exhibition that will take place between January 4 and February 4, 2018. CURRENTS began in 2010 as a timely and innovative biennial exhibition program. CURRENTS addresses contemporary issues that warrant expanded critical attention in the art world.
Proposals should describe an original concept for a group exhibition that can be aligned with the mission of A.I.R. Gallery, and refer to its relevance today. Your proposal should not include a selection of artists but should only focus on the concept of the exhibition and its importance for the institution and the audience. The selection of works will be made from a subsequent open call for artists after the curator has been selected. A.I.R. Gallery will publish a catalog of the exhibit, which will include images of the artwork and a written essay from the selected curator. A stipend will be available.

Internet artist Rafaël Rozendaal presents a new exhibition about the screensaver. Rozendaal questions the anonymity and ephemerality of the screensaver and is fascinated by its subversive, playful and diffuse character. He creates an immersive space for the visitor that captures the extraordinary visual language of this virtually lost medium.
CINEMA 2.0 at ifva aspires to push the cinematic form in order to explore its new creative frontiers. This year’s “CINEMA 2.0: The Phantom Machine” will focus on cinema’s unique role as a practical archival medium and a symbolic time machine. The exhibition will feature four innovative works that use sound, sight, smell and more in bringing about reflections on the intertwining relationships among media technology, history and temporality.
When happenings come at a speed that human memory can no longer grasp and retain, we human beings have developed phonography, photography and cinema to record and represent what once happened. Cinema resembles a time machine that captures and crystalises a certain moment, or even allows the viewer to go back to the past. The four artworks in the exhibition, possessing certain cinematic qualities, resist the passage of time each in its own way like cinema.

Studio de création contemporaine unique en France, Le Fresnoy nous propose de découvrir tous les ans, au sein même de l’école, un « Panorama » – scénographié ici par Christophe Boulanger – d’une cinquantaine d’œuvres cinématographiques et d’installations multimédias, conçues au cours de l’année précédente par ses étudiants résidents et professeurs intervenants. Jusqu’au 31 décembre l’école, fondée et dirigée par Alain Fleischer à Tourcoing, reste ouverte pour une monstration qui rend compte des questionnements d’artistes issus des quatre coins du monde autant que de la diversité des propositions formelles qui les sous-tendent. Quatre projets nous ont particulièrement inspirés, qu’ils relèvent d’une production interdisciplinaire et/ou d’une économie de moyens, concentrée autour de la restitution d’une parole ou d’une idée originale, faisant disparaître la technologie au profit d’une main divine… (ou d’un esprit malin)...
In this exhibition, visitors can experience artworks in which the human genome is used as the basis for a poetry machine for a self-assembling video montage spanning the thirteen years - a memorial work and an algorithmic visualisation for an historic scientific landmark. 3d printed avatars, representing distorted bodies in pain, in relation to virtual worlds, where there's no geography and the result is the crack / wound, everywhere and nowhere. Visitors participate in a software-driven installation, a performative social neuroscience experiment to discover our shared psychological biases. A surreal video installation shows us a dystopian blend of ‘reality’ out in the remote Australian desert with traditional ghost stories and dreamtime stories, mixed with science fiction. The Sahara Desert is remapped by a custom bot in an algorithmically scripted performance, traversing the data-scape of Google Maps and filling a Tumblr blog and its data-centres. Artists take our bio-matter and the inconceivable quantities of data which we generate in our daily lives as materials with an inherent recombinant intelligence and the power to generate (without the intervention of human will) the narratives of human destiny and more. ...
Founded in 2015. By exploring the nodes of entanglements between these fields, NOME aims to raise critical awareness of the crucial issues facing our age. The gallery works with international emerging and mid-career artists whose practices engage diverse disciplines and involve a broad range of media. The day is presented in collaboration with Arts@CERN – the official art programme of the cradle of the World Wide Web and home of the Large Hadron Collider – where the world’s leading physicists and engineers investigate the fundamental mysteries of our universe. This event is part of the three-year COLLIDE CERN FACT Framework Partnership, which includes workshops, events, and the International Residency Award COLLIDE, granting an artist a fully funded residency split between CERN in Geneva, and FACT in Liverpool...
