Rotary Finishes 2 Bathroom Projects

Rotary Finishes 2 Bathroom Projects | Cayo Scoop! The Ecology of Cayo Culture | Scoop.it

Feelgood news of the day.  Two Cayo primary schools have new bathrooms now, courtesy of the Rotary Clubs of San Ignacio and Fairbanks, Alaska. Howard Smith Nazarene and New Life Primary schools both have new bathroom blocks now, and the kids are very appreciative.  Thanks, Rotary, for all you do for Cayo!

"Howard Smith Nazarene School in Benque Viejo has a new toilet block and the smile on the faces says it all. Sanitation and hygiene is as important to education as the subjects the students study.  Thank you Rotary Club of Fairbanks for partnering with the Rotary Club of San Ignacio to make this dream come true."

Duck Run Receives Solar Lights

Duck Run Receives Solar Lights | Cayo Scoop! The Ecology of Cayo Culture | Scoop.it

Feelgood news of the day. The village of Duck Run had solar lights donated by the Rotary Club of Copperas Cove.  They now have a safe, renewable source of light.  Thanks, Rotary!

"Solar lights for the Village of Duck Run were provided by the Rotary Club of Copperas Cove, Texas.  Duck Run is located Northeast of San Ignacio in the Cayo District of Belize.  These families were living without access to a safe source of light.  Children were studying by kerosene lamps and candles.  Kerosene lamps cause deaths and disfigurement due to burns. It also emits toxic fumes.  The Village of Duck Run is now lit by safe solar lights provided by the Rotary Club of Copperas Cove.  The Rotary Club of San Ignacio, Belize provided transpertation and assisted in the distribution.  Thank you to the Ministry of Rural Development for their assistance in making this day possible."

Rotary Provides Cayo Villages Water Filters

Rotary Provides Cayo Villages Water Filters | Cayo Scoop! The Ecology of Cayo Culture | Scoop.it

Feelgood story of the day.  Rotary brought in water filters to villages all around Belize, including 9 in Cayo.  Now many thousands more Belizeans have a clean source of water.  Thanks, Rotary!

"The Rotary Club of San Ignacio was pleased to partner with the Rotary Club of Belize City to distribute Sawyer Point One Water Filters to nine rural villages in the Cayo District.  Filters were delivered with the help of visiting Rotarians from Clovis, New Mexico and Tulsa, Oklahoma.  The nine villages that received filters were, Duck Run 1, Duck Run 2, Duck Run 3, Los Tambos, Santa Teresita, Selena, La Gracia, El Progresso and Cool Shade.  Providing safe drinking water is one of the main areas of focus for Rotary International and hopefully many more villages will benefit from this humanitarian effort."

Pure water is rarely available in these kind of places. With people there drinking unclean water may be very dangerous for their lives. This causes many lives to be taken away due to lack of clean water. Poverty is related to water since they may not afford to buy clean water or even produce clean water. Water is essential for humans and poverty is preventing them from drinking clean water. If I am one of the children whom get to use the water filters, I would be very thankful because I will feel safe drinking water rather than having to feel unsafe and worried drinking unclean water.

4 The World Duck Run Medical Clinic

4 The World Duck Run Medical Clinic | Cayo Scoop! The Ecology of Cayo Culture | Scoop.it

Feelgood news of the day.  Duck Run was another village that 4 The World paid a visit to on their medical mission around Cayo.  This week they did clinics in Calla Creek, La Gracia, and Santa Familia.  Thanks again, 4 The World!

"We can't say enough good things about the OUHSC Team as they have done an amazing job helping so many people all over the Cayo District of Belize.  Today's medical clinic was planned and set-up by two special 4 The World volunteers who several years ago were the first recipients of 4 The World scholarships to go to high school.  Rigzy and Edlin did a fantastic job planning & setting up the clinic for their village!"
