Awesome news on the tourism front. The San Ignacio Resort Hotel was listed as the number 1 hotel in Belize in the World Travel Awards. Cayo's in town jungle resort highly deserves this. Keep up the amazing hospitality, SIRH.
'Belize's San Ignacio Resort Hotel was named the #1 leading hotel on the continent at the 2022 World Travel Awards.'
Belize is number 10 on Fodor's 2018 Go List, their list of must visit places around the world. Once again, Cayo's SIRH gets top billing, as do the caves in the area.
"Ancient Mayan secrets are being unearthed daily at historical locales all over the country. Chances are, you will see a team of archeologists at any of Belize’s Mayan dig sites during your visit. Part Caribbean and part Central America, Belize feels untouched by the rest of the planet, making it seem like a true getaway. In today’s world, how much longer will we be able to find a destination so unplugged? In the heart of the jungle, San Ignacio Resort Hotel features top-of-the-line rooms, friendly staff, and even a medicinal jungle trail."
The San Ignacio Resort Hotel was highlighted in Uptown Magazine. Their new look is amazing, inside and out, as they are currently putting the final touches on the exterior. Cayo's in town jungle. Keep up the great service, SIRH!
"San Ignacio Resort Hotel in San Ignacio, Belize underwent a cosmetic revamp for its 40th birthday, so it could continue offering guests unparalleled luxury in the jungle of Central America. The saw replaced the scalpel to give this luxury property a facelift that includes a new contemporary and Mediterranean-style lobby, complete with a new Baroque-themed bar; a formal dining room; extended outdoor seating; and an overhaul of existing suites. The 26-room hotel also added two new suites that are outfitted with in-room Jacuzzis."
Congratulations, San Ignacio Resort Hotel! The SIRH won 2 awards from the Belize Tourism Board at the 14th annual Belize Tourism Awards. They won the Hotel of the Year award, and the Best Restaurant award for their Running W Restaurant. Well deserved!

The Industry Awards honor businesses across the country for meeting industry expectations and providing exemplary hospitality standards."
Agreed! The newly refurbished Running W Steakhouse in the SIRH is awesome. They've listed the top 15 reasons to check it out, saving us from doing anything but going and enjoying it all. They are in the top 10, number 7 right now, on Trip Advisor. Keep up the great...food!
"Looking for familiarity but something completely NEW? Then stop by our Running W Steakhouse & Restaurant located in the San Ignacio Resort Hotel. Recent renovations have transformed this restaurant into a welcoming space with upscale ambiance and casual elegance. The upgrades also introduced the modern Baroque-themed Lobby Bar featuring signature cocktails and unique appetizers."
Cayo got hyped up in International Living. While it's audience is more for people thinking of moving here, it's a good article, and highlights what they think people like about Cayo and its culture. It's mentions the market, Midas, the SIRH, and even the Chaya Garden Ashram in Cristo Rey. Cayo rules!
"The fertile Cayo is the bread basket of Belize. It’s also an eco-tourism wonderland. This region is abundant with exotic birds, indigenous creatures, vibrant flowers and magnificent trees. Belize’s most desirable hardwood trees—mahogany, zericote and rosewood—thrive in the Cayo... San Ignacio’s Saturday open market is a social/cultural shopping event. It’s the country’s largest open market. Located on the edge of town—next to the banks of the Macal River—the market is expansive, aromatic, and buzzing with activity. You’ll find an abundant, colorful selection of fresh fruits, veggies, herbs and regional food on offer. All are locally grown and reasonably priced."
The Belize Archaeology and Antrhopology Symposium's last day is tomorrow. The CTGA site has a brief synopsis of it, and the changes the SIRH made for the event.
"The San Ignacio Resort Hotel were also on a mission to finish the bar in time for the BAAS. They went with a very modern look which includes silver walls and a nice touch with two TVs. Long gone are the days of the The Stork Club and its Thursday karaoke. If we recall, the Stork Club was a much larger room and had mixed themes, but mostly a western look. It’s a lounge now, or as they have called it, a ‘lobby bar’ as it has a more fluent transition from the lobby to the bar itself. The San Ignacio Hotel has been undergoing a number of upgrades since September of 2013."
The San Ignacio Resort Hotel, as you might have noticed, has been making some big renovations. New Year's Renovations, if you will. They're in the process of posting the pictures. The look on the inside is great, and the new look on the outside will be definitely be different. It looks like the final result will be beautiful.

"Yes we are under construction! However our service and accommodations are still the BEST in the west. All of these images were taken 1/2/2014"
The Ambergris Today paid a visit to Cayo to experience some of the best restaurants and attractions in Belize, and they made sure to stop by the Green Iguana Conservation Project at the SIRH, which is ranked as the number one attraction in Cayo on Trip Advisor, and for good reason. The video they did on their visit is spectacular, and really captures the essence of the tour. Iguanas, termites, orchids, grasshoppers, and lots of other flora and wildlife, even Humbero Requena. Definitely worth a watch.
"Belize is home to thousands of species of trees, flowers and hundreds of species of animals. An amazing array of creatures makes their homes in our Belize. Get a glimpse of this vast wildlife at two of San Ignacio Resort Hotel tours - the Medicinal Trail and the Belize Iguana Project. "
'Calling everyone who has completed the Wildlife Ambassador Program (WAP) online & on-site training! You are invited to attend the National WAP conference to be held on January 28th, 2023 at the San Ignacio Resort Hotel. Registration is a must so RSVP at the link below.'
The 1st Back to the Grotto dance was such an amazing success, the SIRH has set the date for the next one, and it's going to be on September 21st, which falls on a Saturday this year.
The 2017 Jazz Festival goes from the 3rd through the 11th, and there are 3 events, including the closing concert, here in Cayo. The Full Moon Concert will be on Friday the 9th at Ka'ana, the Let's Hear it for the Girls Concert will be at the SIRH's Bedran Hall on Saturday the 10th, and the closing concert will be at the Cayo Welcome Center on Sunday the 11th, where Ascenthium and the World Culture Band will be performing.
Congratulations, San Ignacio Resort Hotel! They were named Hotel of the Year at the Belize Tourism Board's Travel Awards. They are celebrating their 40th anniversary this year, and have made some astounding improvements in the last couple of years. Learn a little about the SIRH in the BTB's video.
The Maya Mountain Adventure Challenge, the longest race in Belize, spanning over 300 miles in 4 days, was last week. The SIRH has a nice article with all the winners of the race. The next one is scheduled for 2018.
"Congratulations to the winners of The Maya Mountain Challenge 2016. Thank you to all of the racers, donors, volunteers, sponsors and spectators that made the 2016 Maya Mountain Adventure Challenge was an incredible success!"
The Belize Wildlife Referral Clinic's 2nd annual Auction Gala fundraiser is on Saturday the 21st, and the SIRH. There will be great food, entertainment, and plenty of great silent auctions.

The San Ignacio Resort Hotel is having Their end of April Steak Your Claim event tonight. Trey will be the chief of the grill tonight. They'll have music by Barefoot Skinny. Happy Labor Day eve!
"STEAK YOUR CLAIM this coming Thursday April 30th!"
Video of the day. Belize Pretty Please, written by Bill Zucky, is a catchy little tune that the San Ignacio Resort Hotel uses in its latest promo. You can see plenty of the Green Iguana Conservation Project, along with a lot of the SIRH, in the video.
Happy World Water Day! Cayo celebrated yesterday with an exhibition in the Bedran Hall at the SIRH. Many institutions set up booths for the event. The Department of the Environment is having an fb promotion, so you can go to their page and answer 2 questions to win.
Deliciousness of the day. The San Ignacio Resort Hotel had their first Signature Dish Cook-Off, and those dishes look amazing. Congratulations to Samuel Salam, who won with his Lobster a la Mia. Can't wait to try it.
"San Ignacio Resort Hotel's First Signature Dish Cook-Off. Testing our talented Kitchen staff in a creative and fun way!"
Cayo and the San Ignacio Resort Hotel really steal the article that just came out in Brickell magazine. The article, Breathtakingly Belize, starts on page 130. Oddly, they didn't post many pictures of Cayo, instead going for the overused sea shots, but they do have the SIRH and Cahal Pech.
"Adventure reigns in this part of the country and I learned a lot on this leg of the trip about The Great Outdoors. The most amusing being that male iguanas have 2 penises; the most useful that bags of water on a table will keep the flies away; and the saddest that the average lifespan of butterflies is less than a month...but at least they’re drunk on nectar the whole time!
A brief jaunt to Chaa Creek, an award-winning eco-luxury lodge with its own on-site organic farm and open-air spa, yielded encounters with tree monkeys, tail- thrashing black iguanas and elusive jaguars, among many other critters. Bring water and a spray mister if you visit: There’s no A/C on site. My favorite part of the experience in this part of Belize was by far the people. They are a sweet, peaceful bunch. A walk through the neighborhood features quaint little shops, small businesses operating out of homes and lots of roadside farmer’s markets."
