The Rotary Club of San Ignacio has finished up their 5 year Belize Literary Project, and they had a small handing over ceremony to the Ministry of Education.  Thanks, Rotary!

"This country-wide project for Belize Literacy sponsored by our Canadian partners in Rotary District 5370 came to an end after 5 years and lots of work from many dedicated folks.  The handing over ceremony was a venue to hand over the last of the equipment to each of the district offices and to the staff of Ministry of Education."

SHJC 2013 Graduation

SHJC 2013 Graduation | Cayo Scoop! The Ecology of Cayo Culture | Scoop.it

Sacred Heart Junior College got some great pictures from their graduation ceremony.

"SHJC held its Thirteenth Commencement Exercises on Saturday, June 1st.  The Thanksgiving Mass was done by Father Leo Palma.  A short intermission followed with Mr. Emmanuel Mangar performing Green Day's "Good Riddance" for our graduates.  Our Master and Mistress of Ceremonies - Mr. Stephen Sangster and Ms. Jeanne Link then began the graduation ceremonies.  The President, Dr. Eve Aird, spoke about the many exciting programs SHJC has engaged in this past year and the future plans for the JC.  Our guest speaker, Ms. Maria Marin, gave an inspirational and motivational speech to our graduates on the theme: 'TODAY: A Time to Reflect, A Time to Change, A Time to Act.'  Many students were recognized for their various achievements - both in academic excellence and attitude.  The recipient of the Dean's award was Ms. Tracie Nicole Donis.  Tracie's mom was also recognized for being an outstanding mother who came to school everyday with Tracie.  The welcome address was delivered by Ms. Juani Gamez (Business graduate) and the Thank You speech was given by Mr. Miguel Ekim Bonilla.  Congratulations to all graduates on achieving another milestone in life.  We wish you nothing but the best in your future endeavours.  You will always be a part of the SHJC family."

SHJC's 2013 Graduation Ceremony | Cayo Scoop! The Ecology of Cayo Culture | Scoop.it

Sacred Heart Junior College held their graduation ceremony for the class of 2013 yesterday.  It was in their, literally just finished, new auditorium, which was decorated beautifully for the occasion.  Maria Marin, the guest speaker, had a phenomenal speech for the graduates about goals, dreams, and ambition.  The students' speeches were also witty and imaginative.  Congratulations, SHJC graduates, and like Dr. Eve Aird said, 'it's not really goodbye, it's see you later.'

"SHJC had their graduation at their new auditorium.  It was the perfect venue, and the graduation ceremony went well.  The guest speaker, Ms. Maria Marin had an outstanding speech that will surely motivate the students as they go into the world to make a difference."

El Pilar Exhibit and Hike

El Pilar Exhibit and Hike | Cayo Scoop! The Ecology of Cayo Culture | Scoop.it

El Pilar is celebrating 30 years of being open to the public this weekend.  To celebrate, there will be an exhibition and presentation on El Pilar at the Cayo Welcome Center tomorrow, from 9:00am until 4:00pm.

The festivities continue on Saturday, when the Duke of Edinburgh Award Belize will be having a day hike, starting at 6:00am, from El Pilar to the Cayo Welcome Center, and then, starting at 3:00pm, they'll have the big ceremony to celebrate the special event.

"El Pilar has more than twenty-five identified plazas in an area of approximately 100 acres (38 hectares), ranking it equal with major centers of the lowland Maya area.  It is the largest center in the Belize River area, more than three times the size of such well-known centers as Baking Pot or Xunantunich.  The site is divided into three primary sectors: Xaman (North) Pilar, Nohol (South) Pilar and Pilar Poniente (West).  The eastern and western sections are connected by an offset causeway system extending between two large public plazas."
