The Beauty of San Ignacio Town

The Beauty of San Ignacio Town | Cayo Scoop! The Ecology of Cayo Culture | Scoop.it

The San Ignacio Resort Hotel has a nice article about some of the beauty of Cayo.  The Hawkesworth is definitely on there, as is the artwork in front of the police station, AJAW chocolate, and the Saturday market.  Great pictures, and worth a read.

"When it comes to places to go for an adventure getaway, it’s easy to think of big cities in Central America. But our Jewel Belize is filled with places that are less heralded but no less magnificent—like our San Ignacio Town!  Known for its beautiful natural surroundings, our hometown also offers travelers a homey, laid-back, and friendly environment.  On the other side, San Ignacio is filled with loads of historical landmarks and fun places to visit during your Belize vacation such as…"

The CNWA has a page where you can follow them and keep updated with their current events.  Their next meeting is tomorrow night at the police station.  They also supported the peaceful demonstration today at CET.  Keep up the great work, CNWA!

"Christmas has passed and so has new year but CNWA is still alive so it's monthly meeting time again.  Tomorrow night, Wednesday January 16th at 7:30PM at the police station conference room.  This will be our first meeting of 2013.  We will be issuing out the radios that we showed you guys at our December meeting.  So there will also be a short quick training on the usage of them."

Bert Vasquez Charged

Love TV has done a great job showing the events of yesterday as they transpired at the police station and Columbus Park.  They interview the police and some of the protestors.  Well done.  Justice for Jasmine!

Benque HoC Heritage Tour Sign

Benque HoC Heritage Tour Sign | Cayo Scoop! The Ecology of Cayo Culture | Scoop.it

The Benque House of Culture got their Heritage Tour sign installed. They are stop number 4 on Benque's new Heritage Tour.  Did you know it used to be the police station?  If you want to see the brochure for the tour, along with the map, it's here: https://drive.google.com/#folders/0BxVpwCISfz8aWHppVnVEdHBSa1k ; Congratulations, Benque, HoC!

"This structure served as the Police Station from the early 1950s until 2000.  It was officially opened as the House of Culture on 6 September 2001 under the auspices of the Community of Artists for Cultural and Historical Endeavors(CACHE) and the National Institute for Culture and History(NICH).  The permanent exhibit includes a historical timeline     of Benque Viejo, archival materials such as documents and artifacts donated by Benqueños.  Among the objects stored in the HOC is a marimba, the autochthonous musical instrument.  The House of Culture organizes temporary exhibitions by local and foreign artists and promotes a range of activities and workshops in music, visual arts and crafts."

Future Cayo Cultural Center

Future Cayo Cultural Center | Cayo Scoop! The Ecology of Cayo Culture | Scoop.it

The future Cayo Cultural Center is being refurbished.  It's in the building going up the hill across from the police station.  Check out the Crown Beer antique.  Imagine a spot where you can hang out, drink a cold beer, check out some art from Cayo artists, and catch some improv.  We can't wait.

Belizeans United for Justice

Justice!  One word, Thousands of people.  There are some moving pictures here from the demonstration in Columbus Park.  Jonathan Cariddi really captured the mood well, as did the signs.

"We want Justice!"

"Lets put our hands together and bring Justice into our Country!"

May justice in this case be swift, sure, and sharp!

Justice for Jasmine

Justice for Jasmine | Cayo Scoop! The Ecology of Cayo Culture | Scoop.it

Here are some pictures from the demonstration at Columbus Park in front of Cayo's police station.  They believe that they have Jasmine Lowe's killer.  If so, we hope that justice is swift, sure, and sharp!  Thanks to Love TV for the pictures.
