To me meditation serves many purposes. My primary uses for meditation are to get in touch with my inner self for peace and balance, cleansing of my energy, accessing other aspects of awareness to do energy work or to explore. Regardless of the reasons, all forms of meditation modify and reduce the control of the rational mind exerts over our awareness, and our growth requires increased awareness. It is not that people do not want to gain the awareness, it is that the untrained rational mind confines and restrains our attention.
