We really need an alternative to plastic. For now, it's up to us to be more aware on how we consume. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!

I also feel that there is a definite misconception on exactly how much plastic is in the ocean. It is often out of sight and therefor out of mind, and this article reminds us that there are actually tons of plastic waste in the ocean, apparently reported to triple in the next twenty years alone.

There must be a reason why there are more sharrks hanging around in these waters.

This will be great. Thank you for a bright spot in the news, Rafael.

I hope they get the funding they need to complete this project and that it brings more attention to the issues that the channelization of our waterways causes.

It's interesting that the decline did not seem to come as a result of environmental structural changes of the mangroves, but instead the decline of the adult reef fish populations. Without reading this, I would immediately think the decline would come from coastal development and its consequences. Also, it's really cool that they were able to conduct the same survey 25 years later!

Isn't the lionfish also a problem here for the decline of juvenile fish?
