Scientists on Monday found massive fractures to the skull of a juvenile humpback whale found washed onto a Pescadero beach, suggesting the 32-foot animal had been hit by a boat. Six researchers with the Marine Mammal Center and California Academy of Sciences performed a necropsy on the female whale, which park officials said was found on Bean Hollow State Beach in San Mateo County. “Every whale stranding serves as an opportunity to learn about these majestic creatures, and how we can prevent future deaths,” Barbie Halaska, a research assistant at the center, said in a statement.
