Some of these 2014 "secrets" such as ecommerce and social media may not feel very secret, but there is still plenty of "blue ocean" in them still. Ecommerce creates great content marketing support for less and less effort (to create the story) so every website should have a store now even if all they sell is their logo merchandise.

Social media is ubiquitous but not embraced. Our recent Ecommies Study of social media for top online retailers (http://bit.ly/1gATp9p ) proved many have social media accounts but few are "social businesses".

Is VC As A Concept Dead Man Walking
Interesting article noting the steep decline of VC firms without a related decline in the number of startups. They credit the movie The Social Network (strange). 

I think the costs of starting a company are declining fast as OPP (Other People's Platforms) help entrepreneurs get started and prove a MVP (Minimal Viable Product). 

The article also notes an increase in angel investing. I would add alternative forms of financing such as bootstrapping and crowdfunding. Throw all of these ideas on the wall and one has to wonder if the idea of Venture Capitalists is either over about to morph into something other than what it has been.

If my advice about adding a store was confusing and now this post feels like a bridge too far Don't Worry. AtlanticBT.com and I are creating a crowdfunding platform Software As A Service tool that can easily adapt to any business vertical or cause marketing.
