How one small word makes a huge difference on Google SERPs | Search Engine Watch

How one small word makes a huge difference on Google SERPs | Search Engine Watch | The MarTech Digest | Scoop.it
I pulled a search term report and filtered for keywords containing “best.”

What I found was pretty interesting. In all the metrics “best” keyword metrics were roughly 2X of the average across all keywords. This indicates two things:

Consumers are responding at a very high level to these keywords with high interest.
Due to this consumer reaction the cost for these queries is also much higher than the norm. This makes sense and is really the beauty of a free market economy.

Keyword Research in 2016: Going Beyond Guesswork - Moz

Keyword Research in 2016: Going Beyond Guesswork - Moz | The MarTech Digest | Scoop.it
Keyword discovery is a critical process, but what we’re left with at the end is a long and often rambling list to prioritize, and typically we prioritize either by our own gut feelings or by the black box of AdWords global volume. What if there were a better way?

When we were building Keyword Explorer, we wanted to solve the deeper problem — how do we pick the best keywords to start with, given the complexity of Google SERPs and our competition in modern SEO? Which keywords really balance potential traffic with ROI?

Over the course of many months, we created four metrics:

Keyword Difficulty (V2)
Keyword Opportunity
Importance (user-defined)
Keyword Potential

Announcing Keyword Explorer: Moz's New Keyword Research Tool

Announcing Keyword Explorer: Moz's New Keyword Research Tool | The MarTech Digest | Scoop.it
Keyword Explorer (which we've taken to calling "KWE" for short) has lots of unique features, metrics, and functionality, but the biggest ones are pretty obvious and, we believe, highly useful:

  1. KWE takes you all the way through the keyword research process
  2. KWE features metrics essential to the SEO process — two you're familiar with — Volume and Difficulty — and three that are less familiar: Opportunity, Importance, and Potential.
  3. Our volume score is the first volume estimation metric we know of that goes beyond what AdWords reports.
  4. Keyword suggestions inside KWE come from almost all the sources we saw SEOs accessing manually in their research processes — Keyword Planner data, Google Suggest, Related Searches, other keywords that the ranking pages also ranked for, topic-modeling ideas, and keywords found from our clickstream data.
  5. Import and export functionality are strongly supported.

A Nutshell Guide to Proper Keyword Research - CMI

A Nutshell Guide to Proper Keyword Research - CMI | The MarTech Digest | Scoop.it
Keywords aren’t the end-all, be-all strategy (so to speak) in creating online content. If there’s one thing I’ve learned writing a myriad of content all over the web, it’s that you should think about your reader first and foremost. Otherwise, you won’t be creating the content necessary to stand out to your audience.

If you use keywords correctly, though, you use the voice of your customers and target audience. And keyword research allows you to target your message and stand out in your industry. While the importance of keyword research has remained steady, the methods have evolved in concert with more intelligent search engines and changing user preference.

Here’s my brief but functional guide to keyword research.

One Insanely Actionable Content Marketing Strategy That Will Generate You 74% More Search Traffic - QuickSprout

One Insanely Actionable Content Marketing Strategy That Will Generate You 74% More Search Traffic - QuickSprout | The MarTech Digest | Scoop.it

Digest...

In this post, I will teach you, step by step, how to identify keywords your competition is ranking for and how to create content that will outrank them. This approach is so effective that by leveraging it on Quick Sprout over the last 12 months, I’ve been able to increase my search traffic from 160,773 visitors to 280,428 visitors a month.

It isn’t very difficult to outrank your competition and generate more search traffic than they do. All you have to do is follow the steps above, using SEMrush and the CSV file you export.

Once you do that, make sure you focus on writing and promoting high quality content. It works so well that by following my own advice, I have been able to increase Quick Sprout’s search traffic by 74%.

The 8 Best Keyword Research Tools for PPC & SEO Keyword Research | WordStream | #TheMarketingAutomationAlert

The 8 Best Keyword Research Tools for PPC & SEO Keyword Research | WordStream | #TheMarketingAutomationAlert | The MarTech Digest | Scoop.it
The AdWords Keyword Tool has been retired! Here are our eight favorite keyword research tool for SEO and PPC keyword research.

Condensed...

1. FreshKey ($20 software)

FreshKey is my #1 go-to keyword research tool that allows me to see beyond the regular Google Instant suggestions and predictions that appear when I start typing things in on Google.

2) Soovle (free)

Soovle allows you to explore the most typed in keywords on multiple search engines based on the keyword root you give it. It even includes Amazon and eBay.

3)  Ubersuggest (free)

Meet the keyword research tool on steroids, Ubersuggest.

Ubersuggest takes any keyword you give it and immediately gives you an almost unlimited list of alphabetized and numerical keyword variations of your original keyword.

4) Search Term/Query Reports (free-ish)

The search term/query report is a PPC report that shows you what search terms have actually triggered your ads based on the current keywords you’re bidding on. So it won’t expand your reach since your ads are already showing for those terms, but it will help you improve your quality scores and granularity within your account.

5)  Google Keyword Planner (free)

The Google Keyword Planner is sometimes regarded as the alpha and omega of keyword research tools. You must have an AdWords account to access it, and that doesn’t mean you have to pay anything to use it, it’s still free.

6)  WordStream’s Keyword Tool (free)

I could never forget WordStream’s very own keyword tool for both SEO and PPC keyword research.

8. YouTube Keyword Tool (free)

How to Increase Your Sales Through Long Tail SEO - QuickSprout | #TheMarketingAutomationAlert

How to Increase Your Sales Through Long Tail SEO - QuickSprout | #TheMarketingAutomationAlert | The MarTech Digest | Scoop.it

Condensed...

Step #1: Keyword research

The only problem with Google Suggest is that it limits how many keywords it shows you. Luckily, there is a tool called Suggester, which gives you all of the other keywords Google Suggest didn’t show you.

Step #2: Create a strategy

You have two main options to choose from… the first is to create landing pages on your site that focus around each of the long tail keywords. The second is to get other people to create landing pages on their own sites about your product that focuses on the keywords above.

Step #3: Optimize for conversions

The content on your landing pages needs to be optimized for conversions. Having call-to-action buttons that tell people to buy from you isn’t enough. Your content needs to be written in a way that helps encourage people to buy from you.

Condensed...

If the thought of SEO makes your head hurt, here's a tried and tested step-by-step guide on how to create and execute a killer SEO keyword strategy.

Methodology to Find New Keywords

Using Google's Keyword Tool, you can experiment with finding keywords in two ways:

  1. Keywords that are relevant to your product offering or service
  2. Keywords used to find direct and indirect competitors of yours

Determining Your Target Keywords

Once you feel satisfied with your master list, go through it and narrow it down. Choose keywords with the best search volume, relevancy to your product and branding, and minimal competitiveness; also ensure that you don't choose keywords that are too similar to each other.

The Process of Placing Specific Keywords on Website Pages

When your keyword list is finalized, the next step is to place the new keywords into your website pages.

Create an Excel document where you can track which keywords you want to place on each page. Ensure that the top ranking keywords are placed on the most visited pages (as determined by Google Analytics) or on pages that will drive conversions; this is the most logical way to drive up your SEO. You should also make sure that the keywords are logically matched with the website page.

Joemktg's insight:

Our summary does not do this post justice. You really need to click through and read the details to fully understand and follow each step. A wonderful guide to help you in your SEO Keyword identification process.
