Be The Go-To Blogger for Topical Event Curation

Be The Go-To Blogger for Topical Event Curation | Internet Marketing Strategy 2.0 | Scoop.it
We are in an age of information overload. In fact, a recent study shows that each of us is exposed to the equivalent of 174 newspapers of data, every single day, and the average person produces six newspapers worth of information every day.

Even if your blog topic is a very small, specialized one, there is probably still a vast amount of information about it online. If an important event occurs in that niche, keeping up with the stream of data about it can be difficult and frustrating for the average person. Readers don’t want to waste time reading the same news over and over again. They want only the best, most comprehensive ideas presented from various angles. For that reason, people often look to content curators, or guides, to help them focus only on the best articles and blog posts for news and discussion of the event.

Your blog can become the “go-to guide” for event news curation in your niche. When an event occurs, you can be the one to build a collection of content that is worth a reader’s time. Here are a few tips on becoming a great event curator.

Three Ways Facebook's Redesign Should Be Changing Your Marketing Strategy | DigitalNext: Advertising Age | Internet Marketing Strategy 2.0 | Scoop.it
This week, Facebook will begin rolling out its redesign to all pages that haven't already been switched over to its new format.

The overhaul makes the pages look and feel more like user profiles. Facebook hopes this will create a more cohesive experience across the platform for its more than 600 million users.

These changes can have significant ramifications on marketers' Facebook strategies by giving brands more ways to interact with their communities on a more personal level.

For developers, this opens up new possibilities for what can be done on tabs within pages. Here are three ways the redesign can shake up your approach to Facebook page management.

New IAB Ad Formats Coming: Here Is a Preview

New IAB Ad Formats Coming: Here Is a Preview | Internet Marketing Strategy 2.0 | Scoop.it
Brand advertising on the web is in many ways in the dark ages.

There is much debate as to why this mainstay of the offline world remains underrepresented online, but one thing is clear: if the creative community and the brands they represent were inspired by the canvas they were given, we would see a renaissance of more and better brand advertising on the web.

The Rising Stars ad units provide the canvas for next generation brand advertising online.

Rising Stars ad units were selected by a cross-disciplinary group that included agency creative directors, media executives, publishers and ad operations specialists, who judged the ad formats for their potential to drive brand equity at scale. These new ad units were chosen from a pool of 36 innovative submissions by more than two dozen companies based on the following criteria:

Inbound Marketing Channels More Cost-Effective - eMarketer

Inbound Marketing Channels More Cost-Effective - eMarketer | Internet Marketing Strategy 2.0 | Scoop.it
Measuring the overall ROI of many online marketing efforts, especially social media campaigns, is still a challenge. But research continues to show that social channels and other forms of inbound marketing deliver leads for less.

Inbound marketing refers to efforts that provide web users with information or tools of value to them, as opposed to outbound or interruptive marketing that pushes messages in front of them. According to research from inbound marketing solutions provider HubSpot, businesses dominated by inbound marketing have a 62% lower cost per lead than firms that do mostly outbound marketing. This result was similar to HubSpot’s findings from 2010.

Will Facebook replace company Web sites? | Deep Tech - CNET News

Will Facebook replace company Web sites? | Deep Tech - CNET News | Internet Marketing Strategy 2.0 | Scoop.it
A day might be coming when the power of Facebook means that major companies no longer bother with their own Web sites.

That was the startling if self-promotional possibility sketched out by Stephen Haines, commercial director of Facebook's U.K. operation, while speaking today at the Technology for Marketing and Advertising conference here.

Essentially, Haines argued, companies' interactions with their customers could take place so often on Facebook that company Web sites would fall by the wayside.

To bolster his argument, Haines showed statistics comparing how many times Facebook users have clicked a company's "like" button with how many times per month people visited that company's Web site.

For Starbucks, a top Facebook advertiser, the ratio was 21.1 million likes to 1.8 million site visitors. For Coca-Cola, it's 20.5 million compared with 270,000; for Oreo, 10.1 million compared with 290,000; and for Dr. Pepper, it's 4.1 million compared with 325,000.

Social Media Marketing: 20 Examples of Great Facebook Pages

Social Media Marketing: 20 Examples of Great Facebook Pages | Internet Marketing Strategy 2.0 | Scoop.it
Marketers are becoming more and more interested in measuring the ROI of social media. According to eMarketer four out of five US businesses with at least 100 employees will be using social media for their marketing efforts this year. This makes measuring the effects of these marketing efforts even more important.

Up to this point the top metric for social marketing success was site traffic, but more and more focus has been given to other values such as fans / followers and positive buzz.

Although only 15.4% of respondents to an eMarketer survey felt that Facebook had a significant ROI, this number is growing. Now is the perfect opportunity for your business to take advantage of the opportunities that social media offers for getting found by prospects and interacting with prospective customers. While other companies struggle with whether or not to participate you can be out in the trenches gathering fans and gaining evangelists.

Chris Lee's curator insight, September 29, 2014 3:49 PM

Examples of brands using Facebook as part of an IMC Program to capture the opportunities presented by social media platforms. Porsche use an interactive app where fans are able to customise their own car and proceed to order it through their website if they wish.

Only 10% of Your Friends See Your Facebook Posts, And Only 1% Like It. - Hypebot

Only 10% of Your Friends See Your Facebook Posts, And Only 1% Like It. - Hypebot | Internet Marketing Strategy 2.0 | Scoop.it
How do I know this? Well I conducted a simple experiment that you are all welcome to replicate.

I simply posted on my wall asking anyone who saw the post to like it. Of my 913 friends, 93 responded by clicking the like button.

If you do try, I would be very interested to see your results, but my thinking is that around 10% is an accurate assessment.

I have written before about the importance of being in control of your fan base and a strike rate of 10% could be considered pretty good for Facebook.

However, that is the amount of people that potentially see the post. It does not represent the people that are going to click through a link or watch a video.

This number is probably significantly less than the 10%.

In fact, based on the reaction I have had to things I have posted, I would say that it is more like 1%, and that's if the post is particularly popular.

Blogging Is Dead :: The Social Media Marketing Blog

Blogging Is Dead :: The Social Media Marketing Blog | Internet Marketing Strategy 2.0 | Scoop.it
It's almost like a rite of spring. Every year, pundits proclaim the death of blogging.

As far back as 2007 ReadWriteWeb was asking the question.

In 2008, it was Wired, wondering if the rise of Twitter, Facebook, Flickr and the like would be more en vogue for individuals, who were getting pushed aside as the conglomerate professional blogs were beginning to take prominence. In 2009, Copyblogger declared blogging dead (again) but noted that it would continue to live on.

Just last year, Problogger debated the role that email played in all of this, and concluded that it's not an either/or decision.

Conversion Optimization: 3 Affordable A/B Testing Tools For Small Businesses

Conversion Optimization: 3 Affordable A/B Testing Tools For Small Businesses | Internet Marketing Strategy 2.0 | Scoop.it
Sure, your company's website could be improved. But with time and resources in such short supply, how do businesses know where to focus their energy?

One answer is A/B testing, or the practice of publishing two variations of a Web page and measuring which one performs better.

A/B testing has been used by large enterprises for years. Amazon uses it to optimize product listing pages. Google was once criticized by an outgoing designer for relying too heavily on data-driven methods like this.

In general, A/B testing involves segmenting site traffic into different groups and showing each group a different version of the same landing page.

Perhaps one page will contain different headline text or a different call-to-action button style. Another page will serve as the "goal" for the desired conversion.

For example, a newsletter sign-up confirmation page or the final check-out page in an e-commerce shopping cart. The software will figure out which version of the page resulted in more clicks or conversions.
